Getting Back in Shape
Getting back in Shape.
Many people take on this new year’s resolution only to abandon it before spring arrives. Here are a few tips to help you keep your commitment.
Enjoy Yourself: Physical activity is a lifestyle. If you hate the gym, then why do you go ? Find a physical activity that you enjoy. Walk - Run - Swim - skate - bike … whatever you do make sure you enjoy it otherwise you will find many reasons to quit.
Be consistent: I’d rather see someone work out twice a week every week than someone going out strong - five times a week - a burning up to quick. There are many reasons for starting off slowly. Physical and mental fatigue are two of the reasons why people don’t persue. Injuries can also result from overtraining.
Set goals: Why are you doing this ? The answer will keep you motivated and doing your thing. Start off with short term manageable goals. Getting to your training twice a week is already a goal. Keeping that goal will reap benefits. Once you have acheived a set goal, set another one, like running your first 5K.
Take it slow: Your are in no rush and your not under pressure, so keep it that way. Make sure that you eat and sleep correctly. Mismanaging your food intake or your sleep time will greatly reduce your ability to improve and move forward with your new year’s resolution. Improvements will come quick at the beginning, going from nothing to something is always encouraging.
Take Advice: Get your health status checked by a professional. They can guide you and help you measure your progression.
Think of getting back in shape like building a pyramid, the bigger the base, the higher the peak.
However you do it - just keep at it and next new year’s eve you will be able to celebrate one whole year of fitness.
Anyways, Got To run
